Overlyric

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 22 September 2026
Short version: the app sends song titles to a free lyrics lookup, nothing else. No accounts, no analytics, no tracking cookies, and we've never sold anyone's data.

Who this is

Overlyric is a solo-developed, free Windows app and companion website (overlyric.com). This policy covers both the desktop app and the website. It is not a law firm's document — if you need this reviewed for a specific legal purpose, have your own counsel look at it.

What the app collects, and why

DataSent toWhy
Currently-playing track title, artist, duration LRCLIB and, if enabled, NetEase To look up synced lyrics for that song. No account or identifier is attached — just the track info.
App settings, display preferences, per-track sync offsets Stored locally only, in %AppData%\Overlyric Never leaves your computer.

There's no account or sign-up, so there's no email, payment info, or personal identifier collected by the app at all. We don't collect analytics, crash telemetry, or usage statistics of any kind — no tracking of what games you play, how long you use the app, or anything beyond the lyrics lookup above.

What the website collects

With your consent (a banner asks first — see the Cookie Policy), the website uses Google Analytics to see aggregate traffic: how many visitors, which pages, roughly where from. It's not used to build individual profiles, and we don't sell or share this data with anyone beyond Google's own processing of it as our analytics provider. If you decline or ignore the banner, none of this loads.

The app download is served from GitHub Releases, governed by GitHub's privacy statement.

Sponsor banner

The app may occasionally show a small, clearly-labelled sponsor line on the overlay card. This is static text/creative, not a targeted ad network — it doesn't involve tracking, profiling, or any personal data.

Children

Overlyric isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.

Changes to this policy

If this changes meaningfully, the "Last updated" date above will change. We won't silently expand what we collect without updating this page.
